PRESS RELEASE

Coach Operator honoured At the Fleet Bus & Coach Awards 2008
A number of Irish coach operators were honoured at a Presentation Luncheon held at the Marriott Johnstown House Hotel, Enfield. Organised by Fleet Bus & Coach to honour best practice in passenger transport.

Collecting the main prize of the day for Coach Tour Operator of the year was J. O'Callaghan & Sons, Killarney, County Kerry. The prize was presented by Noel Brett, C.E.O. Road Safety Authority with a specially commissioned Mosaic by Westport Artist, Leesa Murray.
In his address, Mr. Noel Brett paid tribute to those shortlisted. "To all of you sincere congratulations, as you continue to set standards in this challenging and every changing industry. To deliver a 5 star service needs 5 star vehicles and 5 star drivers and I wish to acknowledge your continuous investment in bringing the industry forward", he said.
Representing Fleet Bus & Coach, Sean Murtagh said, "It is a long time since Charles Bianconi; a young Italian came to Ireland and developed passenger routes in Ireland. Judging by the operators and coaches entered in this competition, things have moved on since that time. For Bianconi competition from the railways and then the private car was the death knell of his business. Isn't it ironic that today the failure of both of those modes of transport to deliver efficiency to commuters has brought transport by coach back to the fore."
